Montreal, October 29, 2012 – Concordia University will grant two honorary doctorates and install new president and vice-chancellor Alan Shepard during three fall convocation ceremonies on October 30, in Salle Wilfrid Pelletier at Place des Arts (175 Sainte Catherine Street West).
10:00 a.m. – Faculty of Arts & Science
The convocation ceremony will also include the formal installation of Alan Shepard as Concordia’s ninth president and vice-chancellor. Although the installation ceremony formalizes Shepard’s position as president, he has been a dynamic presence at the university since arriving on August 1, 2012.
3:00 p.m. – The Faculty of Engineering & Computer Science / Fine Arts (joint ceremony)
Honorary Doctorate recipient:
Elsa Bolam, CM, MA, BA, founder of Geordie Productions, a non-profit professional theatre company, is being honoured for her great contributions to the arts and for using theatre to bring communities together for the past 30 years. Geordie Productions regularly tours Eastern Canada and the United States making live theatre accessible to young people beyond Montreal including those in isolated English-speaking and aboriginal communities across Québec, and in the far North.
7:30 p.m. – John Molson School of Business
Honorary Doctorate recipient:
Aldo Bensadoun, OC, founder and Executive Chairman of the ALDO Group, will be receiving an honorary doctorate for his entrepreneurial spirit in transforming a local shoe store into one of the world's leading fashion footwear and accessories retailer. He has also demonstrated leadership in sustainable business practices and is active in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
