Honorary doctorates to be granted to activists, philanthropists, educators and innovators during spring convocation
Montreal, June 14, 2012 – Concordia University will grant eight honorary doctorates during spring convocation ceremonies to be held June 18 to 20 in Salle Wilfrid Pelletier at Place des Arts (175 Sainte Catherine Street West). The distinguished recipients will join more than 5,000 students from across Concordia’s four Faculties and the School of Graduate Studies who are eligible to graduate this spring.
The honorands are:
Craig and Marc Kielburger, founders of Free The Children and Me to We, for their tireless campaigning against child exploitation, their youth leadership and their social entrepreneurship.
June 18 at 10 a.m. - Faculty of Arts and Science
Jane Doe, the author, educator and activist who successfully sued the Toronto Police Service for negligence and charter violations, for her contributions and ongoing work to challenge social and institutional responses to crimes of sexual violence and their impact on women's equality rights.
June 18 at 3 p.m. - Faculty of Arts and Science
George Springate, Senior Citizenship Judge, former police officer, former Member of the Quebec National Assembly and member of the 1970 Grey Cup winning Montreal Alouettes, for his civic engagement.
June 18 at 7:30 p.m. - Faculty of Arts and Science
Graham Fraser, Commissioner of Official Languages, author and journalist for eloquently upholding the value of bilingualism and for his ongoing defense of minority language rights.
June 19 at 10 a.m. - John Molson School of Business
Darren Entwistle, president and chief executive officer of Telus Corporation, for his visionary leadership in the telecommunications industry and his diverse philanthropic contributions.

June 19 at 7:30pm - Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (No honorary degree to be awarded)
General John de Chastelain , retired Canadian military officer and former ambassador to the United States of America, for his contributions to international conflict resolution, most notably in Northern Ireland.
June 20 at 10 a.m. - Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science
Gaston J-M Kaboré, teacher, writer, film director and founder of the Imagine institute, for his work promoting filmmaking on the African continent and beyond, and for his dedication to transmitting an appreciation of film, video and multi-media creation to young artists through his teaching.
