Concordia hosts International Students Holiday Party to provide seasonal cheer

Montreal, December 21, 2011— Some 400 students — from China to Chad will mingle over seasonal cocktails, enjoy a Canadian feast of roast turkey and all the trimmings before dancing the night away to club anthems spun by Montreal DJ James Karls as part of the International Students Holiday Party on Thursday evening.

The event is being hosted by Concordia University for the 12th consecutive year to provide seasonal cheer for students who can’t return home during the academic break. Media are welcome to attend the celebration and ask these Concordians why they chose to study in Montreal:

  • When: December 22 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight;
  • Where: Espace Réunion, 6600 Hutchison St., Outremont.

A vibrant international contingent
“Concordia is enriched by the presence of students from around the world and we value the important dimension they bring,” says President and Vice-Chancellor Frederick Lowy. “Offering this festive meal is a way for us to thank our international and out-of-province students for choosing our university and making it the vibrant community it is.”

“Every year as the holiday season approaches, I look forward to this event because it gives me and my colleagues a terrific opportunity to meet hundreds of international students, all under one roof and in a joyous atmosphere,” says Philippe Pourreaux, President of the Concordia University Alumni Association. “There’s no better time to build lifelong relationships and create warm memories.”

Concordia has close to 46,000 students of all ages and backgrounds, including more than 5,100 international students from 150 countries.
