MONTREAL/June 4, 2010—
Today Concordia University bids farewell to Congress 2010 of the Humanities and Social Sciences which brought together close to 9 000 delegates and other participants. They came to Quartier Concordia from around the world to revel in this city’s hospitality, making this gathering the largest in the 79 year history of Congress.

During Congress, delegates, attended more than1 500 events, round table discussions, keynote addresses, research slams, exhibitions, multi-media performances, to name but a few of the rich offerings. 70 scholarly associations made use of this annual gathering to exchange on issues of interest, network among members and disseminate the results of their latest research.
Congress 2010 was also an opportunity to discover new ways of communicating that research as widely as possible via the latest multi-media tools and digital technologies. For the first time, participants were able to follow all keynote presentations in both English and French thanks to simultaneous translation co-sponsored by Concordia, the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences and four other Montreal educational institutions.
The Congress is organized by the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the national voice for the university research and learning community in these disciplines. The Federation represents more than 50 000 researchers in 75 scholarly associations, 75 universities and colleges and seven affiliates.
Congress 2010 was also the result of two years of enthusiastic work on the part of more than 100 full time Concordia employees, an equal number of students helping with individual projects, and another 200 volunteers.
