The Mayor of Montreal, Gerald Tremblay, in the presence of the President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University, Dr. Judith Woodsworth, the former Governor General of Canada, the Right Honorable Adrienne Clarkson and the Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China, his Excellency Lan Lijun, today rededicated the recently restored statue of Norman Bethune. This occurred in Place Bethune at the corner of Guy Street and De Maisonneuve Blvd. West, during the launch of the year commemorating Dr. Norman Bethune, which will take place between October 2008 and November 2009.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of Dr. Bethune’s arrival in Montreal and the 70th anniversary of his departure for China.
