Claude Lajeunesse steps down as President of Concordia University

MONTREAL/September 18, 2007—

The Board of Governors of Concordia University announced today that, by mutual agreement, Dr. Claude Lajeunesse will be stepping down as President of Concordia University as of October 31, 2007.

“I wish to thank Claude and publicly recognize his achievements, leadership and commitment over the past two years,” said Peter Kruyt, Chair of the University’s Board of Governors. “Under his direction, we have continued to make progress on all fronts, attracting a growing number of talented students and faculty from around the world by offering innovative and top quality programs and research. The Concordia community is also benefiting from significant investments in the upgrading of our facilities.”

“In accordance with the university’s by-laws,” added Mr. Kruyt, “we will be launching a search process immediately, and, as is our custom, pro-actively seeking the input of the Concordia community. We will also name an Interim President to lead us through the transition period after October 31.”

President Lajeunesse said, “I am very proud to have served this great institution for the past two years. We have built a talented leadership team that is dedicated to Concordia’s future development. I thank the entire community for the support they have shown and I am confident that Concordia will continue to evolve into a leading Canadian university.”
