MONTREAL/June 7, 2007—
Christine Jones, a Concordia University graduate (BFA 1989 - Theatre Design), has been nominated for a 2007 Tony Award (Best Scenic Design of a Musical) for her set design of the hit musical, Spring Awakening.
Jones’s nomination is one of 11 for the show, which led the pack with the highest number of nominations. The Tonys will be awarded on Sunday, June 10 at Radio City Music Hall and will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m. E.T.
After receiving her BFA at Concordia, Jones earned her MFA from NYU where she currently teaches. She is also a professor at Princetown University. Her credits include:
- Broadway: The Green Bird directed by Julie Taymor.
- Off-Broadway: People Be Heard (Playwrights): Burn This (Signature Theatre); Flesh And Blood, Nocturne (NYTW); True Love (The Zipper).
- Opera: Giulio Cesare (Houston Grand Opera), Lucia Di Lammermoor, (New York City Opera).
- Current: The Elephant Man (Minnesota Opera), The Onion Cellar in development with The Dresden Dolls for A.R.T.
- Other: Designed for regional theaters across the country. Music video for Ben Folds Five.
