Students in Concordia's John Molson School of Business Set a New Record

MONTREAL/May 15, 2007—

Students in Concordia's John Molson School of Business (JMSB) have set an all time record for Eastern Canadian universities by winning overall gold at the three most prestigious commerce competitions in Eastern Canada this academic year.

It all started with JMSB's total dominance at the 19th TD Meloche Commerce Games in January 2007. With five gold, four silver and two bronze medals, the JMSB came top for academic disciplines and overall score. Less then two weeks later, they repeated their success by winning overall gold at Omnium Financier, with four gold medals and one silver out of six disciplines. Then, last March, another overall gold at Marketing Happening as JMSB students won three gold medals, one silver and two bronze, out of six disciplines.

These unprecedented results are just part of the overall picture for the 2006-07 competition season. In total, 45 JMSB undergraduate (UG) teams have competed locally, nationally and internationally and have achieved an amazing 32 podium finishes.

"Our students have gone out to competitions across Canada, the US and internationally and shown that the JMSB is a winning school," says Mark Haber, Director of the UG Competition Program. Also Head Coach, Mark Haber received the TrophÈe Reconnaissance, an award given by the Commerce Games organizing committee for his dedication. The trophy underlines Mark's exceptional contribution to Jeux du Commerce and the JMSB delegation over the last eleven years. "My vision has been to make John Molson the number one undergraduate case competitor in the world and I think we are either there, or very close," points out Mark.

To publicly celebrate their success and achievements and to congratulate these winning students, Dean of the John Molson School of Business, Dr. Jerry Tomberlin, today unveiled a huge banner spanning De Maisonneuve Boulevard West between the Henry F. Hall and J.W. McConnell Buildings (1400 and 1455).

Speaking at the event, the Dean expressed his respect for all of the competitors. "Congratulations to you all. Your outstanding performance makes us all so proud to be part of the John Molson School of Business." He also extended his warm thanks to Mark Haber, Head Coach, and to all the other coaches whose time and efforts have contributed to an unprecedented level of excellence.
