MONTREAL/April 4, 2007—
Concordia University congratulates its students for voting in favour of the 1% campaign during last week's student elections. By accepting the 1% proposal, students will now pay 75 cents per course towards a Sustainability Action Fund, with the aim of making Concordia the most sustainable university in Canada. As Concordia is the first Canadian university to adopt the 1% proposal, organizers are now challenging other universities across the country to follow in their footsteps.
This is just one of a number of recent environmental successes at Concordia. Last week the R4 Compost Project was highlighted by the city of Montreal for its leadership role in the first phase of Montreal's strategic plan for sustainable development. The week before, a Concordia initiated student group, Youth Action Montreal, hosted the first Youth Summit on Climate Change with keynote speakers Dr. David Suzuki and former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore, who accepted an honorary doctorate from Concordia following the event.
Concordia is not only concerned with promoting sustainable development within our institution, but also with teaching it to future generations. Below you will find a list of Concordia's ìGreen teamî, available to answer any of your questions about the environment and sustainable development.
