Concordia University Awards Honorary Doctorate to Al Gore

MONTREAL/March 22, 2007—

Concordia University today awarded an honorary doctorate to former American Vice-President, Al Gore. The ceremony took place during Youth Action Montreal's Youth Summit on Climate Change at the Palais des CongrËs.

ìMr. Gore, for all that you have accomplished in the past and all that you will continue to accomplish, we bestow upon you our university's highest award, an honorary doctorate from Concordia University. It is a symbol of respect and appreciation for your lifetime of service to your country and to a better world.

Since the 2000 election, the former Vice-President has re-channeled his energy to focus on an all-out effort to help save the planet from irrevocable change. His film, An Inconvenient Truth, based on his best-selling book of the same title, was recognized as the best documentary of 2006 at last month's Academy Awards ceremony. He is also considered a strong contender for the next Nobel Peace Prize thanks to his work on the environment.
