As of today, January 18, 2007, Concordia University has a new visual identity. At this morning's meeting of Concordia's Board of Governors, the Board approved a new logo for the university, the fourth in the University's history (1974, 1978, 1988, 2007).
The decision to proceed with a new visual identity for Concordia is the culmination of more than a year of work that began with a far-reaching reputational study conducted by The Strategic Counsel. More than a third of all faculty and staff, and 4,223 students took part in the study, as did thousands of applicants, alumni, and business and opinion leaders. The overwhelming view of Concordia presented by this survey is that we are seen as a daring, approachable and engaged university; an institution that is rich in diversity and committed to the highest standards of learning and research.
Based on this, the university undertook the process of creating a new logo for Concordia that would best represent these characteristics. ìOur logo is a symbol of our commitment to innovation, excellence and involvement in our community,î said Concordia president, Dr. Claude Lajeunesse. ìIt reflects our growth and development, the renewal of our campuses, and above all our vision of becoming a leading university in Canada.î
In this era of strong competition between universities to attract the best and brightest students and faculty, Concordia felt it was important to re-affirm our position with a visual image that best represents us. The new logo better reflects Concordia's development, its profile, its values, and its place within the contemporary North American university landscape. It will be fully integrated into the Concordia landscape (signs, posters, shuttle buses, letterhead etc.) over the next 18 months.
