MONTREAL/October 30, 2006—
The John Molson School of Business (JMSB) project is intended to satisfy the School's most urgent needs, and includes the construction of a new building at the heart of Quartier Concordia on the Sir George Williams Campus at the corner of Guy St. and De Maisonneuve Blvd. There are also plans to construct a tunnel between the new school and the Guy/Concordia Metro station.
The new building will accommodate all teaching and research activities of the JMSB under one roof. It will include classrooms, amphitheatres, meeting rooms, offices, space for a variety of student associations and future needs. With this new building, students and professors will have access to the latest technology.
The new John Molson School of Business fits perfectly in the architectural landscape of the community because it is designed to be visually confluent with the newly constructed Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex situated just across the street. The new building will be representative of the the world of downtown businesses and will combine comfort and functionality with all the benefits of high technology. A vast atrium is also planned for the main entrance of the new school where students can meet, communicate and relax.
This new building should be operational in summer, 2009 with its main purposes being to:
• Position the John Molson School of Business as one of the most dynamic and innovative in North America at the core of the business community.
• Maintain and improve the John Molson School of Business' reputation for excellence.
• Offer functional, state-of-the-art facilities that better answer the educational needs of a 21st century economy.
• Promote the recruitment and retention of top level professors and students from around the world.
• Ensure better management and coordination of university activities by reducing the number of buildings occupied downtown, as well as reduce overall costs by limiting the number of rented premises.
• Promote the necessary links between the education and research communities in an environment that is functional, state-of-the-art and better adapted to facilitate communication between universities and businesses.
