MONTREAL/May 25, 2006—
Are developing countries truly developing? Does the concept and practice of development need to be revisited? Are the West's efforts to aid the rest of the world doing more ill than good?
New York University Professor of Economics and former World Bank research economist William Easterly will try to answer these questions and more as one of the highlight speakers at the 40th annual Canadian Economics Association Congress. The Congress will take place from May 26th to 28th at the Henry F. Hall Building at Concordia University (1455 de Maisonneuve West.)
The three-day congress will bring together hundreds of academic economists from universities in both Canada and the United States. They will investigate and debate a number of subjects including commerce and the environment, international trade, economic development and monetary policies.
With about 1400 members, the Canadian Economics Association (CEA) is the organization of academic economists in Canada. The Association has for its object the advancement of economic knowledge through the encouragement of study and research, the issuing of publications, and the furtherance of free and informed discussion of economic questions.
