On April 11th, three organizations – allégo Concordia, the Planners’ Network Montreal, and the Right To Move/La Voie Libre – will team up to present a spring transportation fair. The full-day event will offer students, faculty and staff the opportunity to come together in a festive atmosphere to learn all about a socially, economically and environmentally friendly method of travel – the bicycle.

With activities ranging from workshops and demonstrations demystifying bicycle maintenance and safety, a photo exhibit, food and music, the emphasis is on celebrating the bicycle as an effective, elegant, and easy way to get around Montréal.

The day will be capped off with a panel discussion focusing on the politics of the bicycle and its place in Montréal’s transportation future. “The panel will address some of the political barriers to putting the bicycle at the centre of Montréal’s transportation strategy, at a time when decreasing environmental quality and an impending global energy crisis are having a huge impact on urban life,” said Desmond Bliek, communications coordinator for the planning committee. Speakers include Projet Montréal leader Richard Bergeron, Mile-End councillor Michel Labrecque, Marc Jolicoeur of Vélo Québec, and long-time activist ‘Bicycle Bob’ Silverman.

The events will take place on the mezzanine and terrace of the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West) from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the panel discussion at 7 p.m. in room H-110.
