On Friday March 10, Concordia University students, and members of the Canadian Building and Civil Engineering Students association will hold the 22nd annual Troitsky Bridge Building Competition. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West).
This event will bring together participants from universities across Canada and the United States. The bridges will be assembled, displayed and judged from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the mezzanine of the Henry F. Hall Building. They will face the ìCrusherî at 2:30 pm. in H-110 in the same building.
These engineers of tomorrow will incorporate ingenuity, creativity and engineering skills to construct sturdy and aesthetically appealing bridges out of simple materials: popsicle sticks, dental floss, toothpicks and glue. At least one structure has withstood a maximum load capacity of over 3000 kg., when submitted to the ìCrusherî. Each bridge has specific height and weight restrictions, which the teams must follow. Judging is based on weight, aesthetics and originality.
For more information, contact the Civil Engineering Students Association at (514) 848-2424 ext.7911 or at csce@concordia.ca.
