2 events for International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women's Day, Concordia University will hold 2 events on March 3rd and 4th, titled Global Feminisms and Social Transformation, sponsored by Concordia's Peace and Conflict Resolution lecture series.

The first event, a cultural celebration evening, will take place Friday, March 3rd at 7 p.m., in room H-110 of the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West), featuring performer Faith Nolan, well-known in feminist, blues and activist circles. There will also be lead-up performances by local artists as well as the Guatemalan activist Sandra Moran.

The second, a day-long event consisting of a forum and workshops, will take place Saturday, March 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in room H-110 of the Henry F. Hall Building.

This event is organized in collaboration with the city-wide committee Women of Diverse Origins and Concordia's Simone de Beauvoir Institute, will explore women's participation in civil society as a means to internal social justice and international peace.

The classic victims of war, social conflict, and political repression, women around the world, they are also finding ways to intervene and take action to create social and international peace.

The morning panel highlights four international and multicultural participants: Sandra Moran of the Guatemalan National Women's Forum, Palestinian Zleikha Muhtaseb of the Christian Peacemakers' Team, Filipina immigrant Marilou Carrillo of Vancouver's Philippine Women Centre, and Afro-Canadian Faith Nolan, a prisoners' rights advocate.

In the afternoon, all four panelists will offer individual workshops on their respective efforts for social transformation, along with a number of Montrealers, including minority and disability rights activist Yolanda Munoz, and Concordia faculty members Kim Manning, (Political Science) on China and Sandra Weber, (Education) on South Africa.
