MONTREAL/January 17, 2006—
On Thursday, January 19, Concordia’s Peace and Conflict Resolution lecture series will present the film, In a Time of Violence, directed by Brian Tilley. It’s the fifth of 8 films in the sub-series Exploring Conflict and Its Resolution on the African Continent through Film. The film will be shown at 6:45 p.m. in the D.B. Clarke Theatre in the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West, basement level). It will be followed by a response by Maurice Charland, professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies at Concordia University, and will conclude with an open discussion session.
In a Time of Violence is a fast paced political thriller set during the final tense months of apartheid. One of the most ambitious television dramas ever produced in South Africa, it stars some of the country’s finest actors and features a vibrant score by top Township bands. The series dramatizes the basic Africa National Congress (ANC) policy of ethnic reconciliation within a multi-racial democratic society.
