MONTREAL/January 9, 2006—
University wins for second time in competition's 25-year history
Concordia met the challenge and triumphed. After four days of intense competition, Concordia MBA students won the top prize at the 25th Annual John Molson MBA International Case Competition, which featured 36 teams of business students from around the world who vied for supremacy from January 3 to 7, 2006.
The winners, announced during a closing banquet sponsored by Bombardier, were as follows:
• 1st Place: John Molson School of Business (Export Development Canada grand prize of $10,000)
• 2nd Place: HEC Montreal (Pratt and Whitney Canada prize of $7000)
• 3rd Place: Universität Münster (Dynamic Funds prize of $5000)
Throughout the week, teams examined real cases taken from businesses such as Wal-Mart, Exxon Mobil and the Cirque du Soleil. The final schools presented their strategic solutions for a case involving a California-based business in the food industry before judges and 300 peers and the public at Montreal's Bonaventure Hilton Hotel.
What's more, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore won a $3,000 Pfizer prize for reaching the semi final round. The Richard Outcault Team Spirit Prize was awarded to both the University of Tennessee and the Indian Institute of Management. The Dr. J. Pierre Brunet prize for best coach went to Alex Faseruk of Memorial University.
