Web-Based Marketing Course Wins National Award

MONTREAL/June 20, 2005—

Marketing Yourself, a web-based course developed by marketing professors Harold Simpkins and Jordan LeBel in conjunction with eConcordia has won the 2005 Canadian Association for Distance Education Award for Excellence and Innovation in Educational design. It was presented at the association's annual convention in Vancouver this past May which was hosted by Simon Fraser University.

Marketing Yourself was created to teach students the principles of marketing by showing them how to apply these to their careers. During the course, students develop a complete marketing plan for themselves and as part of this process, they take a number of self-assessment tests for which they are given immediate feedback. A preview version of the course is available at www.marketingyourself.ca

Since the beta version of Marketing Yourself was launched in July 2004, almost 1000 students have enrolled in it. This unique, ground-breaking course has been featured on CBC Newsworld and in the Montreal Gazette, Marketing Magazine, the Mirror and JMSB's New Biz. Other universities have expressed interest in offering Marketing Yourself to their students and Professors LeBel and Simpkins are co-authoring online and hard copy versions of a textbook to accompany the course. Publication is scheduled for summer 2006.
