MONTREAL/June 20, 2005—
Elaine Arsenault, manager of career services in the Counselling and Development Department at Concordia University, was recently honored with le prix Tatoulu 2005 in the category Grande Section Maternelle for her first children s book Le Grand Rêve de Passepoil (edition: Dominique et Compagnie). The award was presented on May 28th in Paris by the Association Tatoulu, which promotes children s literacy.
There were 6 books short-listed in 5 different categories of the competition. School children read them, discussed them and then voted for their favorite.
Despite fierce competition, Le Grand Rêve de Passepoil has captured the imagination of youngsters throughout France. This joint Quebec-France publication tells the story of Passepoil, a little dog who does everything to attract the attention of the young seamstress Mademoiselle Madeleine in the hopes of being adopted. The story shows how dreams can come true if you hope and dream.
The translation, Doggie in the Window, came out in September 2004 and is sold in Canada and the US. The second book in the series is being presently being printed and the third will be out in 2006....the illustrator is scheduled to begin working on it this fall.
