MONTREAL/June 6, 2005—
Concordia University today honoured four of its most generous supporters, namely, Dr. Leonard Ellen, Eric Molson, Richard J. Renaud and Jonathan Wener, at a reception under the tent at the corner of Guy St. and de Maisonneuve Blvd., the future site of the John Molson School of Business.
Dr. Ellen is Chairman of the Ellen Family Foundation, Eric Molson is Chairman of the Board of Molson Coors Brewing Company, Richard J. Renaud is Chairman and CEO of TNG Corporation and Jonathan Wener is Chairman and CEO of Canderel Inc.
"These pillars of Montreal's business community have worked tirelessly to develop Concordia's real estate portfolio," said President and Vice-Chancellor Frederick H. Lowy during the tribute. "In less than a decade, their efforts have doubled the University's physical presence in the downtown core, which is no small feat."
Under Dr. Lowy's leadership, and through the guidance and generosity of these men, Concordia has purchased the Guy Metro Building, the Faubourg Tower and, most recently, the Grey Nuns' Mother House. They were also instrumental in the acquisition of Samuel Bronfman House and the historic TD Bank Building - both gifts to the University.
On the Loyola Campus, major renovations to the Drummond Building will provide a state-of-the-art facility for the Journalism and Communications Studies department. The award winning Richard J. Renaud Science Complex is the envy of other universities. At its official opening in September of 2003, Quebec Premier Jean Charest praised Renaud and other philanthropists for their financial support of universities, adding "now it's our turn to find the funds to support universities"
Downtown, ground will soon be broken for the new John Molson School of Business and this fall the doors will officially be opened to the new Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex.
