Borders and Bridges: A Series of Films on Reconciliation

Route 181

MONTREAL/March 17, 2005—

On, Sunday, March 20, as part of the ongoing Peace and Conflict Resolution series, Concordia University will present the film Route 181. The film will be screened from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., in room H-110 of the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West).

Directors Michel Khleifi and Eyal Sivan dedicated themselves to producing what they consider a cinematic act of faith: a film co-directed by a Palestinian and by an Israeli. In the summer of 2002, for two long months, they travelled together from the south to the north of their country of birth, traced their trajectory on a map and called it Route 181. This virtual line follows the borders outlined in Resolution 181, which was adopted by the United Nations on November 29th 1947 to partition Palestine into two states.

The 270-minute video screening will be divided into three sessions of 90 minutes each. Each session will be followed by a presentation by the directors and complemented by Ross Perioge, professor in Concordia's Journalism Department, and Marc Raboy, professor and Beaverbrook Chair in Ethics, Media and Communications in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University.
