MONTREAL/March 11, 2005—
Concordia University and the Hector-Fabre Chair in History at l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) are jointly organizing the conference Les Relations internationales du Québec depuis la doctrine Gérin-Lajoie 1965-2005. The conference will take place at both universities from March 16 to 18, 2005.
Opening plenary at Concordia on Wednesday, March 16
Concordia University will host the opening plenary on Quebec-United States relations, beginning at 7 p.m., in the D.B. Clarke Theatre, on the basement level of the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West, Guy-Concordia metro). Among those taking part are: John Parisella, Special Communications Advisor to the President at Concordia, President of BCP Consultants and member of l’Observatoire sur les États-Unis de la Chaire Raoul-Dandurand at UQAM; Dr. Danielle Laberge, Provost and Vice-Principal at UQAM; Léo Paré, president of l'Association des chefs de poste du Québec à la retraite; Paul Gérin-Lajoie, former Vice-Premier of Quebec and former Minister of Education; and Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, provincial Minister for International Relations and Minister responsible for the Francophonie.
UQAM events – March 17-18
The conference will move to the Centre Pierre-Péladeau (Salle Pierre-Mercure, 300 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West), on March 17-18. Researchers, professors and politicians will examine Quebec’s presence at the international level since the adoption of the Gérin-Lajoie doctrine.
Ingo Kolboom to receive honorary doctorate on March 17
Within the context of the conference, an honorary doctorate will be awarded to Ingo Kolboom, Director of la Chaire etude sur la France et la Francophonie at Dresden University in Germany. Dr. Roch Denis, Rector of UQAM will officiate at the ceremony to be held at 4:30 p.m.
Round table of former provincial ministers for international relations on March 18
UQAM Rector Roch Denis will preside over the round table, and will be joined by Concordia President Frederick Lowy. The four former ministers who will take part are Gil Rémillard, John Ciaccia, Sylvain Simard and Louise Beaudoin.
