On November 7, 2004 , le Salon de la culture du Festival du Monde Arabe de Montrèal invites the public to an encounter with Lahcen Zinoun, dancer, choreographer, producer and esteemed director from Casablanca, Morocco, who will present his work Violence, geste et libertÈ. The evening will begin with the screening of two of his short films, followed a debate during which Zinoun will render his vision of the relationship between violence and gesture.
Lahcen Zinoun, once the principal dancer with classical ballet company of Belgium, has distinguished himself internationally in many roles, including several works of major choreographers such as Peter Van Dyck and AndrÈ Leclair. In 1978 he began to assemble his own critically acclaimed dance creations, and has continued to support the development of this art in the Middle East. He also participated in and choreographed the scenes of several films, including The Last Temptation of Christ by Martin Scorsese and The Sheltering Sky by Bernardo Bertolucci, as well as produced three short films: Assamt (2001), Piano (2002), and Faux-pas (2003).
