In collaboration with the Concordia Centre for Canadian Irish Studies, the university's Department of English will be launching an annual series titled Writers Read, beginning with an open presentation by author Colm Toibin.
Born in Ireland, Colm Toibin is an author, traveler, reporter and novelist. He has been the recipient of several awards including The Irish Times Literature Prize in 1991 for his novel South; he was also a finalist for the Booker Prize 2004 literature award for his latest novel, The Master, which traces the life of Henry James. The author was also short-listed for the same award for his novel Blackwater Lightship, which was translated into eighteen languages.
Colm Toibin has also written numerous documents and articles on travel. Contributor for several Irish and English journals, Colm Toibin, backed by his own success, often finds himself acting as an ambassador for contemporary Irish literature, editing many news anthologies.

The Concordia University Chair in Canadian Jewish Studies is pleased to announce the publication of a book titled The Jews in Canada (in North America) by Y.E. Bernstein and translated from the original Hebrew into English by Professor Ira Robinson.
The author focuses specifically on the role of Zionism and antisemitism in the lives of Jewish Canadians.
In his introduction, Dr. Ira Robinson provides contextual background on the author Y.E. Bernstein's era. You will also find historical photographs and a copy of the original Hebrew manuscript.
