Creative arts therapies bring out the best in adults with developmental disabilities

Concordia University's Centre for the Arts in Human Development, which offers an innovative program of creative arts therapies is proud to present its latest original musical show titled ìRomeo and Juliet on Dante Street: a new musical based on an old love storyÖî ñ a new twist on William Shakespeare's tragic love story.

The lead performers in the play are participants of the Centre who are adults with varying levels of developmental disabilities, referred from several vocational, hospital or residential settings in the Montreal area. Participants attend on a part time basis each week during the University's academic year.
Students from two alternative high schools are involved in developing and assisting with the production both on and off stage.

Professionals in all aspects of the production are engaged to support the emerging talents of the actors. This year the play is situated in Little Italy where two families of bakers have been feuding for over one hundred years. Come see how the love between Romeo and Juliet plays into the conflictÖ Wonderful music, exciting dance numbers, a unique art exhibition, and a touching message make this show something to remember.

The Centre for the Arts in Human Development at opened its doors in 1996 and offers a program that is unique in Canada. Its mission is to promote the highest degree of personal development for special populations, by offering various methods of creative arts therapies, including drama, art, music, and dance/movement, in a university setting.

The performances will be stage at the D.B. Clarke Theatre in the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West). Tickets for the gala evening on Saturday, June 19, at 7:30 pm., are $15. Admission for the matinee show on Sunday, June 20, at 2:00 pm. is $10. Tax receipts will be issued for special ticket purchases.
