MONTREAL/May 3, 2004—
President and CEO of Manulife Financial joins prestigious groups of honorands
Eric Molson, Chancellor of Concordia University, Dr. Frederick Lowy, Rector and Vice-Chancellor, and the Loyola Alumni Association, are pleased to announce that Dominic D'Alessandro, President and CEO of Manulife Financial, is the latest recipient of the Loyola Medal. The presentation will be made at a gala this evening, at 6 p.m., in the Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto (21 Avenue Road).
Mr. D'Alessandro, a graduate of Loyola College, one of Concordia's two founding institutions, was chosen for this honour because he truly personifies the spirit of the Loyola Medal. The Medal was established in 1961 by the Loyola Alumni Association, as a permanent tribute to outstanding leadership and achievement on the Canadian scene.
Mr. D'Alessandro success in business can be attributed to his forward-thinking, his personal strength and his honesty. He inspires confidence and, in turn, earns loyalty and dedication from his colleagues, staff and shareholders. Concordia University has also benefited from Dominic D'Alessandro's talents and commitment, as he applied his remarkable management skills to the University's fundraising campaigns. In fact, the proceeds from this evening's event will establish an endowment in his name, which will provide important financial support and encouragement in perpetuity to masters and doctoral students in research-oriented programs.
In receiving the Loyola Medal, Mr. D'Alessandro joins a small and elite circle. Previous recipients include former Governor General Georges P. Vanier, Paul-…mile Cardinal LÈger, Jean Drapeau, L. Richard J. Renaud, Jacques MÈnard, Maureen Forrester and Dr. Hans Selye.
