MONTREAL/December 9, 2003—
The newly formed Montreal Theatre by the Blind, in association with The Centre for the Arts in Human Development at Concordia University is presenting the original play Dancing to Beethoven, to be staged at Place des Arts for three performances on December 18, 19 and 20, 2003. The play was written by Montreal impresario Sam Gesser and will feature eight amateur actors who were recruited through a public media outreach in Montreal in August 2003.
Dr. Stephen Snow, Director of Creative Arts Therapies at The Centre for the Arts in Human Development (CAHD), and the play's director, has had much experience directing plays and musical productions with special populations. CAHD was launched 7 years ago as a project affiliated with Concordia's Faculty of Fine Arts. Over the years, the Centre has offered its unique program of creative arts therapies ñ art, drama, music and dance/movement ñ to over 100 individuals with special needs. The play is a fundraising event for the CAHD, and a portion of the profits will also benefit the community of the visually impaired.
Journalists are invited to this evening's rehearsal (December 9) at 7 p.m. in Studio G of Place des Arts (Please present yourself at the security desk).
