Art Matters Festival: bringing Concordia student art to the Montreal community

MONTREAL/March 7, 2003—

MONTREAL/March 7, 2003 - Art Matters, Concordia's Fine Arts multidisciplinary student-run festival will take place from March 7th-21st in venues across Montreal. The festival is in its third year and will feature over 60 artists from disciplines in both the performing and visual arts. The festival is building on its 2001 success, when it was awarded the Forces Avenir Award by the Quebec government for outstanding project by a student group.

Art Matters will consist of a variety of events including workshops, lectures by prominent artists and community organizers, gallery shows, performances, parties and impromptu public performances. This project has helped hundreds of Concordia students present their work to the Montreal community. The festival is also a forum for Concordia artists to unite, while gaining practical experience to help them in the real world.

Art Matters is a festival that not only aims to create opportunities for student artists but it also aims to reach out to the community and recognize the place that students have within the Montreal community. The festival is taking art to the community. Art will be showcased in venues including the local YMCA, libraries, and a women's shelter.

Art Matters is grateful for the generous financial support from both Concordia and the Montreal community at large. Art Matters gets much of its funding and resources from Concordia University through the Fine Arts Student Association, the Dean of Fine Arts, and the Dean of Students. Community Sponsors include Boreal, PA SupermarchÈ and Boustan.
