Sport administration graduate program an edge for successful careers

MONTREAL/October 4, 2002—

Graduates of the John Molson School of Business program in sport administration are involved in the Athens 2004 Olympic Organizing Committee, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, and the National Hockey League. This unique master's-level program is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a gala celebration starting at 6:00 p.m. today at the Hotel Vogue in Montreal.

As the only graduate sport administration program in Canada located entirely in a business school, and one of the few in North America, the Graduate Diploma in Sport Administration gives students the edge needed to build careers in all areas of the sport sector. Graduates are working as managers and administrators in professional teams, national sport centers, community recreation programs and business.

Over the past 25 years the program has matured and now has admission standards in line with those of the MBA program. In fact, students who complete all the requirements of the DSA may obtain substantial transfer credits to the John Molson MBA.

An important reason for the success of the graduates lies in the internship program. It is a carefully structured work experience of at least three months that carries academic credit, and increasingly it leads to offers of employment for the highly motivated and skilled students.

The students in the DSA come from all over Canada and from other countries, such as, the U.S. and China. They have degrees in a wide range of fields, including commerce, law, arts and science and even dentistry. Some are elite athletes or certified coaches, and many of the students have years of experience in organizing sport events and tournaments.

With courses in the fundamental management disciplines and an emphasis on the development of practical management skills for today's marketplace, the DSA gives students an edge in landing the jobs that lead to careers in sport management.
