MONTREAL/June 20, 2001—
Ê Concordia University's Board of Governors has approved the appointment of Dr. Jerry Tomberlin as Interim Dean of the John Molson School of Business. He replaces Dr. Mohsen Anvari who will become Dean of the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dean Anvari's departure follows a year of intense activity, including a major fundraising campaign, a name change, the launch of three new programs, the establishment of four research chairs and further accreditation for the business school.
Dr. Jerry Tomberlin assumes his new responsibilities as Interim Dean, effective August 1, 2001, for a one-year term. He has been an integral part of the senior administration of the Business School since 1995, first as the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs, Research and Program Evaluation, and most recently as the Associate Dean of External Affairs. According to Dr. Tomberlin, the next few months will be extremely active. ìThis week we are launching an Executive MBA program in Paris and in July we will hold a major international aviation conference at the School of Business. This will be followed up, in the fall, with the launch of a new E-Business program. We will continue the momentum that we have developed this year with solid improvements to our programs, our research profile and the quality of our graduates.î
Dr. Anvari said his term at Concordia has been ìa privilege and an honour. The hard work that we have undertaken as a team has proved fruitful and I am pleased that Dr. Tomberlin has agreed to take on the additional responsibilities necessary to see that it continues.î
Dr. Anvari has been the Dean of the John Molson School of Business since 1995. He holds an MBA from Sir George Williams (Concordia University), as well as an MSc and PhD from Case Western Reserve University. He has been a professor of finance at the School since 1988.
Dr. Frederick H. Lowy, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University, said, ìConcordia congratulates Dr. Anvari on his new appointment, and thanks him for his hard work and leadership on behalf of the John Molson School of Business.î
The University will conduct an official search for a new Dean of the Business School starting in the fall. This process will be overseen by the Office of the Rector and include representatives from the University and the community-at-large.
