Concordia shines in cross-Canada accountancy exams

MONTREAL/November 27, 1998—

Jethro Bushenbaum, a Concordia University student in the Diploma in Accountancy program, achieved the highest grade in Canada at the rigorous four-day Uniform Final Examinations (UFE) administered by Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Concordia students took the top five spots in Quebec, as well as tying for ninth: Carl Adjami, came in second, Gillian Pearl came in third, Michel Laranjo placed fourth, Melvin Green came in fifth, and Joseph Grossman tied for ninth. Five of them also placed in the top 20 in Canada.

Concordia's pass rate among first time writers was 81.1 per cent. The combined pass rate among Concordia's first time writers and repeaters was 75.9 per cent, compared to the national average of 65.8 per cent and compared to 48.4 per cent in Quebec..

All six students are already working at accounting firms Caron BÈlanger Ernst and Young, KPMG, Samson Belair/Deloitte and Touche, Fuller Landau and Richter Usher and Vineberg.

A cocktail reception will be held to celebrate our students' achievement on Monday, December 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sir George Williams Faculty and Staff Lounge, Room 767 of the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve Blvd. West).
