MONTREAL/August 7, 1998—
Mayor Pierre Bourque, while touring the city today, paid a visit to the latest downtown green space, at the south-west corner of Guy and de Maisonneuve.
The lot, which had been empty for some time, was purchased last year by Concordia University as part of its ongoing drive to reduce its rented facilities in the downtown area.
Since the space is not yet being used by the University, a partnership was struck with the City of Montreal to make a much-needed oasis of this busy corner.
The City spent $75,000 to renovate the empty lot this week. Grass now covers the 32,000-square-foot lot, and trees and benches will soon be added.
