We are pleased to announce QUESCREN’s sixth annual conference at Acfas: “Connect and disconnect: Anglophones, the English language and Montreal’s creative economy.”

Highlights

  • Scholarly presentations on topics including music scenes, theatre awards, Black Montreal culture, literary production, defining the creative economy and cultural policy.

  • Keynote address by Linda Leith, founder of Blue Metropolis

  • Special “off-Acfas” events: an English-Language Arts Network Roundtable at the Rialto Theatre moderated by Guy Rodgers of English Language Arts network and featuring Concordia's Fenwick McKelvey as commentator (May 12); a walking tour hosted by Mile End Memories of sites associated with the anglophone creative economy, including the Temps Libre (tempslibre.coop), a new coop supported by Concordia (May 12); a walking tour by Under Pressure/Fresh Paint Gallery of murals associated with English-speaking communities (May 13); and a networking event!

This conference is organized in collaboration with Canadian Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities and is supported by Concordia's Faculty of Arts and Science, Canadian Heritage, Quebec Community Groups Network, English-Language Arts Network, the Rialto Theatre, the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (MISC), and Community Economic Development and Employability Corporation.
