Concordia University awards honorary doctorates to six distinguished individuals

The new chancellor will be officially installed

Montreal,  May 13, 2015 – Concordia University will present honorary doctorates to an advocate for the rights of First Nations people, a leading environmentalist, an internationally renowned musician, a scientist, a philanthropist and a business woman. They will receive their honorary doctorates during spring convocation ceremonies, taking place June 8 through June 10 in Place des Arts’ Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier (175 Ste-Catherine St. W.). The honorands will join close to 6,000 students from the four faculties as well as the School of Graduate Studies, who will be receiving their diplomas.

The honorands are :

Kenneth Deer, Secretary of the Mohawk Nation at Kahnawake, for his commitment to the recognition and advancement of the rights of First Nations people.
June 8 at 3 p.m. – Faculty of Arts and Science

Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, for her devotion to the campaign against climate change and her tireless rallying of state support for efforts that lower greenhouse gas emissions.
June 8 at 7:30 p.m. – Faculty of Arts and Science

Emanuele (Lino) Saputo, chairman of the board of Saputo Inc., business leader and philanthropist, for his innovative spirit and commitment to excellence.
June 9 at 10 a.m. – John Molson School of Business

Anne-Marie Hubert, managing partner of Advisory Services at Ernst & Young Canada, in recognition of her  exceptional contribution to the advancement of women in business.
June 9 at 3 p.m. – John Molson School of Business

K.G. Terry Hollands, professor emeritus in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, in appreciation of his research in the field of solar energy.
June 10 at 3 p.m. – Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science

Angèle Dubeau, virtuoso violinist with an international reputation, for her talent and her contribution to deepening the popular appreciation of classical music.
June 10 at 7 :30 p.m. – Faculty of Fine Arts

The official installation of Jonathan Wener as Concordia’s eighth chancellor will take place during the convocation ceremony for the Faculty of Arts and Science on June 8 at 10 a.m.
