Dr. Jane Goodall to address a full-house at Concordia University

Leading conservationist and primatologist delivers message of hope

Montreal, March 12, 2014Concordia University and the Concordia Student Union (CSU) will be hosting acclaimed primatologist and environmentalist, Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, on March 28 in the auditorium of Loyola High School (2477 West Broadway Street). The founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, Goodall will give a public lecture titled “Sowing the Seeds of Hope”.

Goodall’s talk will focus on her experiences with the chimpanzees of Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. She will also detail the ongoing work of the Jane Goodall Institute and its community-centered conservation and development programs in Africa.  Goodall will also discuss the current threats facing the planet and her reasons for hope in these complex times, encouraging everyone in the audience to do their part to make a positive difference each and every day. 

Goodall has pursued her groundbreaking chimpanzee behavioral research for more than five decades through the Institute that bears her name. She also founded Roots & Shoots, the Institute’s global environmental and humanitarian program that works to educate and empower youth to become better environmental stewards of our planet.

“Jane Goodall eloquently demonstrates the power of the individual to bring about lasting change,” says Concordia President Alan Shepard. “Goodall’s conservation work serves as an encouragement to the many members of the Concordia community committed to having a significant impact on our society.”

Melissa Kate Wheeler, president of the CSU, expresses the hope that "Jane Goodall’s unique experience and positive message will inspire our student body to pursue actions that help ensure environmental justice and the preservation of the natural world."
