Peter Jaskiewicz from Concordia University and his co-authors won the second-place prize of this year's Transeo Academic Awards for their paper entitled “Entrepreneurial Legacy: How Family Firms Nurture Entrepreneurship in Succession.”

Transeo is the European association for SME transfer. SME transfer refers to the sale or acquisition of small and medium-sized enterprises. The 2013-2014 edition of the Transeo Academic Awards rewarded the best academic papers on the topic of business transfer.

Jaskiewicz’s paper claims that although entrepreneurship helps firms adapt to change, compete, and survive, research shows that family firms are less entrepreneurial, on average, especially after the founder departs.
