Our Department of Education offers one of Canada's finest undergraduate teacher certification programs, a 4-year BA, Specialization in Early Childhood and Elementary Education that leads to permanent certification to teach in Quebec schools (Teacher Certification). Our program is renowned for its small classes and individual attention, the number and quality of carefully supervised internship placements in schools (beginning in the first year), the depth and variety of its course offerings, and the quality of instruction. Entrance into this program is highly competitive.
Designed to prepare teachers for preschool and elementary school. Comprehensive internships are required at the preschool, kindergarten and elementary grade levels. Successful completion of the program leads to certification by the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS).
Group A
84 required credits in psychological, sociological and philosophical aspects in education;
growth and development of the child; family, parenting, and education in Quebec;
developmental issues of children such as behaviour and learning problems, and the gifted;
teaching of reading, language arts, mathematics, and science concepts to preschool and
elementary children; historical and current issues in preschool and elementary education;
practice teaching and internship in preschool, kindergarten and elementary school; ethics
and religious culture.
Group B
12 elective credits in the teaching of values, human sciences or a second language.
Group C
24 elective credits outside the Department of Education. Students who do not
have collegial level Social Sciences will be required
to select six credits in this area.
Students who do not have collegial level Natural Sciences will be required to select
three credits in this area.
