Beneficiary designation

For your coverage

You may designate anyone as a beneficiary under the Basic and Optional Life Insurance Plans. Simply complete the Beneficiary Designation form.

The benefits are paid to your estate if:

  • you do not designate a beneficiary; or
  • your designated beneficiary dies before you do.

Change of beneficiary

You may change your beneficiary designation at any time, provided you have not made the designation irrevocable, (subject to provincial legislation).

  1. Complete a Beneficiary Designation form.
  2. Submit the form to Benefits Services.

If you designate your estate as beneficiary:

If you designate your estate as beneficiary, you must have a valid will to ensure benefits are paid promptly and in accordance with your wishes. In the absence of either a beneficiary designation or a will, the proceeds of your estate will be distributed according to a formula established by provincial legislation, which may be contrary to your intentions.

For your eligible dependents’ coverage

In the event of the death of an insured dependent, you are the beneficiary of benefits payable.
