Judy Garfin, MFA, BA

Associate Professor, Print Media

Biography

Judy Garfin recently had a 25 year survey exhibition, Natural Disguise/Déguisement naturel, which toured nationally and was accompanied by the publication of Judy Garfin: Natural Disguise/Déguisement naturel, a hard-bound edition with 80 color plates, five critical essays and an interview by Cheryl Kolak Dudek. Current projects include a major exhibition scheduled for 2001 in Venice, Italy. She is also collaborating with her husband, a jazz musician and film composer in the creation of an interactive digital web initiative that integrates 3D immersion environments based on her paintings with music and libretto. Professor Garfin has printed professionally for Claus Oldenburg, Tony Onley and other established artists in Canada and the United States. Her research is focused upon a reinterpretation of primitive and meditative painting traditions in a contemporary feminist context and in literary notions of how concrete description provides access to ideas and theoretical issues in visual art.
