It is not completely understood how the human ear receives and transmits, nor how the human mind comprehends, stimuli from more than one sound source at a time. Various research theories will be presented from the psychology of auditory perception. Professor Beckett will also speak of her own research, in which she seeks to develop effective strategies for ear training students doing
dictation and transcription of two-line melodic structures.
Christine Beckett has a background in music education, string performance, piano, composition, theory pedagogy, and music perception and cognition (MPC) research. She is a Full Faculty Member of the International Laboratory for BRAin, Music, & Sound (BRAMS lab, www.brams.org).
Dr. Beckett joined the Department of Music of Concordia University in 2003, teaching ear training, keyboard skills, theory, music research surveys, and other courses.
