Metamorphosis: Evolving Pathways in Somatics North American Body-Mind Centering Association Conference June 17 to 21

June 1, 2016
|

Concordia welcomes the 31st Annual North American Body-Mind Centering® Association (BMCA) Conference, held in Canada for the first time.

The event features 88 presenters offering a vast array of workshops, lectures, demonstrations, and performances informed by the realm of somatics, the name given to approaches in body/mind integration and to the body as experienced from within. The conference will be attended by over 200 people from around the world, and creates a rich palette for exchange and exploration of questions relating to our body’s innate intelligence, and its evolving relationship with the world around us.

One of the highlights of this year’s event is a three-part performance programme on June 18th at 7:30pm, which is free to the public. The evening schowcases fourteen diverse performance works by an intergenerational, international, and interdisciplinary roster of creators.

This international annual gathering is a fertile ground to further in-depth understandings of somatic practices as they continue to evolve vitalize our lives. It will bring together a vibrant community of practitioners, artists, therapists, and educators, as well as writers, spiritual leaders, and scholars.

The pre-and-post conference presentations, by post-modern dance icon Simone Fortin and Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, the legendary founder of Body-Mind Centering®,  are still open for registration.  All activities will take place in Montréal at the beautiful downtown studios of the Dance and Theatre Departments in the John Molson School of Business (MB) building of Concordia University.

Online registration continues until 21:30 on June 14, after that, attendees must register on site.
