What engineers can learn from the lotus leaf

One of the problems that graduate student Navid Sharifi tries to solve with his research is how to prevent ice from forming on everyday structures. If it forms on the wings of an airplane, for example, it can be very dangerous. The anwer to this problem, he says, "is given to us by nature."

He looks to the lotus leaf for clues. 

In an on-going series, Concordia graduate student researchers are portrayed through the lens of filmmakers from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema.
