Yoshimi Lee's exhibition La femme maison questions notions surrounding the home. She asks: is home the safe place where childhoods are spent? Is it the nostalgic site of our summer vacations? Or is home where we settle permanently once our adult years have arrived? Perhaps home is a transitory space, constantly shifting, for both settling and unsettling bodies.

For nine months, Yoshimi embodied Yulia's first house.

The artist's transformation from body to house reconsiders the physical and emotional concepts of the home. Yoshimi explores the intersection of body and space and the unavoidable loss of bodily control, hinting at surrealist themes. Meanwhile, she is interested in accompanying emotions of fear- fear of regretting, anxiety, and not feeling up to it- which emerge with physical transformation. Her body becomes both aware and frighteningly unaware of itself.

However, Yoshimi also thrives off of the process of waiting, uncertainty, and doubt, revealing a sense of inner-strength.

La femme maison represents the rebuilding of a home, both an individual and collective undertaking, from foundation to roof, where one can grow, face challenges, or happily sing along.

Qu'est ce que la maison? Celle où l'on a grandi, celle où l'on a passé ses vacances estivales, là où l'on s'installe pour de bon une fois devenue adulte.
On déménage, on emménage, on s'installe, on repart...

Pendant neuf mois, l'artiste est devenue la première maison de Yulia.

Comment vit-on alors, quand son propre corps devient maison?
C'est l'invasion d'un corps par un autre, la perte totale de contrôle, c'est tout simplement surréaliste. L'angoisse, la peur de ne pas être à la hauteur, la peur de regretter. Un corps rejetant l'autre, un corps envahissant l'autre, un corps prenant place, toute la place. C'est être dans un état hors du sien.

La trop longue attente, se sentir forte, ne rien savoir, douter de tout, être sure que tout ira bien; on l'aime déjà.

Construire une maison, construire pour un autre, pour qu'il soit bien au chaud. Yoshimi s'efforce à créer un toit, un abri, une fondation, un lieu où grandir, où se disputer, où chanter.
