Artists Emily Pelstring and Jessica Mensch venture into their respective backgrounds in painting, set design, animation, experimental film and video installation to present Eyelash Wars, an expanded fiction that spectacularizes the competing commercial displays of two rival vendors of beauty products. The small town’s caricatured inhabitants dance against black-lit cartoon landscapes to a warped new-age rap soundtrack: dreams are woven and unraveled amidst melodrama and physical comedy. (In the main gallery)

In sharp contrast to the busy theatrical space of the main gallery, artist Jérôme Nadeau, creates a quiet space for contemplation and experimentation in the gallery’s Black Box.  His installation is titled That innate and ineradicable craving for what is out of the common proves how glad we are to have the natural and tedious course of things interrupted. Visitors are invited to enter the dimly lit room to observe and manipulate a collection of light sensitive photographic papers that change over time as they are stacked, layered and overlapped.

The exhibitions will be open to the public from September 2 until October 19, 2014.

A vernissgae with public performances will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Reception and performance to coincide with the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective’s Iakwé:iahre Colloquium will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 7 p.m.

The FOFA Gallery presents work showcasing the range and quality of artistic media and concerns as practiced by its current and past faculty, staff and students. In addition, the Gallery will from time to time present work by artists from outside the Concordia community when it enhances, amplifies or informs the pedagogic goals of the Faculty.
