"Far from being a condition that erodes a person’s capacity to communicate, we have found that dementia generates an array of creative responses from those affected by it, in an effort to connect meaningfully with others. Once this is accepted, doors open to new possibilities and a different story can be told."- Ward et al., (2008, p648)

Christine Novy is an Ottawa-based Registered Psychotherapist with a formative training in drama therapy. Since 2013, she has been exploring creative ways for people living with dementia to participate more fully in social interactions.
Life story work in dementia care is a collaborative activity that connects lives and creates community. During this interactive workshop, Christine will present case work from recent lifestory programs with and for families living with dementia.
In addition, participants will learn about:
• common communication difficulties experienced by people living with dementia;
• supportive strategies identified by people with dementia that contribute to knowing the person beyond their disease;
 • creative ways to build on retained abilities and enhance communication in a group setting.

Space is limited. Contact Christine Novy to reserve your place.
