The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation funds and catalyzes work aimed at creating a more just, sustainable, and beautiful world, and it sees universities as key partners. Foundation President Stephen Huddart says where you see cities thriving, it is more than likely that universities are playing an active role in making this happen. The Foundation has launched several initiatives designed to engage the public as well as the private, public and not-profit-sectors to explore ways to make their cities and communities truly thrive. This includes the RECODE initiative, which aims to fuel social innovation and social entrepreneurship (SI/SE) in higher education. The goal? Nothing short of rewiring our culture’s operating systems.

He will address the topic of how universities can help build thriving, innovative cities. This is part of the speaker series, The Future of the University and the Future of Learning, being held as part of Concordia's strategic directions initiative.
