Story Maker

Interactive storytelling is not just about telling stories on digital platforms. It is also about making them relevant to an audience, and using different platforms with a purpose. This involves thinking differently and starting stories with a bottom up approach. This workshop focuses on shaping interactive stories with a special emphasis on collaborative working, design thinking and user experience. The aim is to make stories that can be meaningful to their users/participants. We will work on the theme of personalization in interactive stories.

This workshop is relevant to anyone working on, or studying, interactive narrative projects – or willing to be exposed to the process of iterative design. Participants will pitch for their idea and groups will be formed – the groups will have to answer the who, what and why questions – then groups will work on formulating a design question from the user point of view and will start designing a first user interface on paper. They will finally present their designs and ideas in a 5 min pitch.

Sandra Gaudenzi started her career as a television producer and then moved into interactive television, to finally specialize in the field of digital interactive narrative. She has taught interactive media theory at the London College of Communication (University of the Arts London) during thirteen years, completed a PhD about interactive documentary at Goldsmiths, and is now Visiting Research Fellow at the University of the West of England. She co-convenes the i-Docs conference and is Creative Director of its website. She also mentors projects, organises trainings, curates conferences such as WebDox, blogs, researches and runs a monthly meet-up in London on new interactive factual narratives.
