Studio Arts instructor Manon De Pauw's latest investigation into the aesthetics of light, the image creation process, and the possible resonances between the micro and the macro, between the body and the universe, is now shown at Galerie Division.

In her series, Nébuleuses, comprised of photograms evoking cosmic imagery created entirely in the artist's darkroom, De Pauw used metallic materials to reflect a light beam emitted from an enlarger onto photosensitive paper. A different interaction with light is at play in the artist's most recent series Surfaces rocheuses. Here, De Pauw prints negative images of rocky surfaces onto brushed aluminum panels, resulting in seductively luminous and restlessly refractive surfaces.

Whereas the former series indexed the gestures of the artist in the darkroom leading to the production of these trompe-l'oeil, the latter compels us to actively participate through our constant negotiation with the reflective support. De Pauw's photographic research is closely linked to her ongoing video and performance process where light, bodies, and matter are continuously interweaved and interacting.

Manon De Pauw lives and works in Montreal, Quebec. Her work was featured in Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed : The Quebec Triennial, Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (2008) and in solo exhibitions at Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris (2012); Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG), Lethbridge (2010), and at Galerie de l'UQAM, Montreal (2009). In 2011 De Pauw was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Award.
