Professor Kimberley Manning is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Concordia University, Montreal. Professor Manning will speak about her research and professional interests; her community work to expand the rights of transgender children; her vision of the Simone de Beauvoir Institute and its Research Associates.
Professor Manning is an expert in Chinese Politics and Gender Politics. She was awarded a doctorate in 2003 from the Department of Political Science, University of Washington. She was a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for East Asian Studies, Stanford University. She is a recipient of grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Fonds de recherche sur la société et la culture du Québec. She is a prolific researcher and is completing a monograph on the gendered enactment of family ties in revolutionary China, has embarked on a collaborative study of Sino-Tanzanian relations, and has published on gender and politics in journals with international reach. Professor Manning is in the forefront of research and activism focused on protecting the rights of transgender children and serves as a Board Member of Gender Creative Kids Canada.
